How Our Handcrafted Furniture Comes to Life

The Joinery builds furniture differently, beginning with thoughtful design. Our in-house team meticulously creates each collection to meet our high standards for function, quality and style. Each piece is entirely handcrafted in our Portland workshop by a single skilled craftsperson who signs their work when complete. This ensures consistency, accountability, and a level of refinement rarely found in modern furniture production. Their signature reflects our lifetime promise of exceptional quality.

We build with U.S.-grown hardwoods, including Eastern and Western Walnut, Cherry, Maple, and Oregon White Oak. These materials are selected for their beauty, durability and ability to age gracefully over time. We incorporate traditional joinery techniques, such as mortise-and-tenon construction and hand-fit detailing, ensuring structural integrity that far exceeds industry standards.

Our finishing process includes hand-sanding to a buttery finish and application of our own custom blend of natural finishing oil, designed to protect the wood while allowing its organic character to shine. The result is furniture that celebrates the richness and grain pattern of the wood, while being as pleasing to the touch as it is to the eye.
