Meet Ann, our new Sales Manager!
The throughline in Ann’s professional career has been her passion around interior design, craft, and authentic quality – and the customers who share those passions.
These interests developed as she worked in college, first in apparel and then at a wallpaper store. It was there that she gained experience in interior styling and held her first store manager position.
Having studied ceramics and sculpture, Ann later joined Twist, another iconic Portland retailer, in a management position. Most known for their curation of artisan jewelry, there was also an emphasis on contemporary craft. After more than a decade with Twist, she transitioned to the realm of European fine linens at Linen Society. Ann found many similarities there – a handcrafted approach to home textiles and a discerning clientele that values quality, craft, and “quiet luxury.”
Even as she worked in high level jobs with these great organizations, Ann was aware of The Joinery. “The Joinery has been on my radar for over 20 years,” she said. “Long ago, friends invited me for dinner at their home, and when I admired their table, they proudly waxed poetic about the ‘Portland institution’ that still built handcrafted furniture. I later learned there was a quiet cachet in recognizing The Joinery’s furniture in customer’s homes and interior design plans.
“When looking for a meaningful position with a creative company, the role at The Joinery resonated. My career has always been with independent, innovative retailers focused on unique products. With my background in both artisan craft and interior fashion, I was eager to work for a brand as revered as The Joinery.”
Ann is most excited about bringing our furniture to even more people – broadening our “cult” audience and continuing to support our master woodworkers. “In the current world of mass-production, the art of traditional furniture-making exists because people value the craft and make it part of their everyday lives,” she says.
Outside of work, it’s not surprising that many of Ann’s pleasures revolve around her home. It’s filled with a constantly shifting assemblage of furniture, art, and sentimental items. She and her husband love to host friends and family, and one of her creative outlets is composing the perfect cheese plate.
We are really excited to have Ann on board leading our sales team. Beyond this, she also has great strategic skills and adds wonderful insight to our leadership team.
Please join us in welcoming Ann, or better yet drop by our Downtown Portland Showroom to say hi in person.
