How long have you been working with The Joinery?
3 years currently and 2+ years previously (1996-1998)
How did you get started in working in wood? What was the first piece you ever built?
15 years ago, I started finishing with the Joinery on Division. I built a bed for my wife and I last year with help.
What is the most rewarding aspect of your job? What is the most challenging?
Working with the builders to create beautiful, heirloom furniture. Managing to do it efficiently…
Is there a project or aspect of woodworking that you are interested in tackling that you haven’t yet?
I would like to get to a place where I have the builders ability but with a finish guy’s mentality.
What is your favorite traditional woodworking joint? What make it special to you?
Mortise & tenon. I have an appreciation for glueless joinery. Through mortise & tenon is classic and takes skill.
What is your favorite species of wood to work with, and why?
I like Western Walnut for the colors and grain figure. But cherry to me is timeless and traditional.
Is there a favorite project or piece you have built in the past?
Nope.
