About the artist
Standing wool wall hangings are freeform fiber sculptures. These pieces are created by stitching together coils of felt. Each piece has a hanging loop on the back for easy installation.
Amy Reader is a fiber and installation artist currently living and working in Portland, OR. She graduated with honors from the University of Richmond in May of 2015 where she studied studio art and education. In her senior year, she created a collaborative crochet installation called the #100womenproject which is her largest installation to date. That year she also received the Capital One Merit Award for Excellence in Studio Art.
In the summer of 2016, Amy went to Sachaqa Centro de Arte in San Roque de Cumbaza, Peru, where she built a site-specific sculpture entitled Mayatataq Rishanki (A donde vas?).
Amy worked at Anthropologie as the Display Coordinator creating the window and in-store displays at the Charlotte SouthPark Mall location from 2016-2018. While at Anthropologie, Amy used a variety of skills including conceptualization, design, fabrication, and installation of large scale designs. She continues to use these skills as a freelance installation artist helping other creative companies bring large scale concepts to life.
In early 2019, Amy was invited back to her alma mater to facilitate a conversation with current undergraduate students about arts in the life of the city. This was part of the A&S Next program to prepare students for careers after college. She was the youngest alum invited to this program.
Amy was accepted as a member of the Society for Embroidered Work in 2019. The Society for Embroidered Work aims to promote and support the best stitched art worldwide.
When she is not creating her own work, Amy is hiking or spending quality time with her husband, Adam, and kitten, Hugo.
