The Celilo Set has been such a great addition over the last year, and we are excited to be debuting the newest piece, the Celilo Stools! We built one in Cherry and 3 in Eastern Walnut, come and check out their sleek, modern lines in person. As with all our seating, the Celilo Stools can be built with upholstered or wood seats.

Here you can see them as they came through assembly, and the finished product!

As the deep darkness of winter is descending, we start longing for rooms that match our moods. There are so many ways to set the mood in a room, and one of our favorites is through upholstery. One of our newest chairs to hit the showroom floor are the Alexandra Chairs, an archived style that we have updated and set back into our standard line. The chairs we have on the floor are built in Eastern Walnut and have upholstered seats, for which we chose a plush chenille damask pattern. You can see our post about the process of building the chairs here.

This fabric is Robert Allen pattern Daedal in Prussian, and is available in two alternate colorways. A good match for this fabric might be a textured linen, like this one from Threads by Lee Jofa. It is a linen and viscose blend Made in Italy and is shown in color number 290. The natural texture of the linen is an unexpected choice next to the sophisticated damask pattern, yet brings out the natural element in the background and lets the chenille shine.

Desks, desks, desks…having a desk of ones own is a special and often necessary ingredient in one’s life. Executive desks make a beautiful addition to a space when there is room, but what about small spaces? Or situations that require less storage? A secretary is such a elegant and classic solution to the need for a writing surface, and can be a fantastic way to hide technology for laptop users without taking up valuable space. We have had a series of secretaries make their way through the shop lately, some even with customized interiors that we were really impressed with.

We are super pleased that an old favorite has been revised and revived from the archives of Joinery design, and has joined us once again on the showroom floor. The Alexandra Chair has been built time and time again for Joinery customers, and we decided to revisit the design of the piece and play with the proportions a little to make the chair even more suitable as a dining chair. Here is the chair as it comes through assembly:

We are often asked about our wood sources, and one of our proudest answers is that we partner with the Portland based Collins Company for our FSC (Forest Stewardship Council) Certified Cherry. A large percentage of our furniture is built  in Cherry, which is sustainably harvested from self-sustaining, managed forests in Pennsylvania. From the Collins Company website:

The 295,000 acres of Collins timberlands are biodiverse, multi-layered, canopied forests, not single-species tree farms. They are self-sustaining, containing more wood today than they did over a hundred years ago. They are home to bald eagles, black bears, wild turkeys, rubber boas, beavers, great blue heron rookeries and the endangered Goose Lake redband trout. They are enriched by meadows, springs, creeks, rivers, and lakes. They are naturally healthy forests—growing trees only from sunshine, water, and nutrients from fertile soil.

Below are some pieces built in our FSC Certified Cherry from the Collins Company, the Classic Mission Bed and the Dunning Style Kirsten's Dresser.
