How long have you been working with The Joinery?

Almost 6 years.

How did you get started in working in wood? What was the first piece you ever built?

Middle school and high school shop and then when I was 15 I started working at a cabinet shop in the evenings after school. First project was an end table for my parents.

What is the most rewarding aspect of your job? What is the most challenging?

Seeing the finished product. Figuring out the best and most efficient way to build some of the custom pieces we do.

Is there a project or aspect of woodworking that you are interested in tackling that you haven’t yet?

I’m always interested in learning new aspects of woodworking. There are so many different styles and variations.

What is your favorite traditional woodworking joint? What make it special to you?

Dovetail. So many different types and applications it can be used in.

What is your favorite species of wood to work with, and why?

No real favorite. They all present unique challenges and have their own appealing aspects.

Is there a favorite project or piece you have built in the past?

A bow front dresser out of western walnut that I use as a bathroom vanity.

You are a new father, congratulations! What have been the greatest joys of having a new baby?

Watching her grow and develop. She is constantly changing.
